Made in 1932, Vernon was the last Ramsome's traction engine ever built.
Oban to The Peak District
Starting on 14th May 2026. Vernon, The last Traction engine ever made by Ransomes, and his friends Nelson & Queen Mary visited Oban.
On Monday 18th May, travelling at 8mph, they set off from The Cuilfail Hotel at Kilmelford to travel over 300 miles south towards home in the Peak District.
Along the way, they were the first steam engines on a Calmac ferry, had a photoshoot with RNLI, met Oban Fire fighters and many other wonderful people who helped us along the way. Whether they were letting us borrow their welding equipment, offering their community center showers, letting us camp on their land, or making us breakfast, they all made a huge difference and Vern is very grateful.
He also made it into scottish newspapers, had radio interviews and made the BBC news! All while raising over £8000 for charity. What an adventure
